At St. John's and St. Peter's, we believe in the power of community collaboration and sustainability. We are proud to announce our partnership with Eat Make Play to create a community garden that not only enriches our local environment but also contributes to a larger effort to protect our planet.
One of the key initiatives of our collaboration involves the responsible management of our lunchtime food waste. Instead of sending it to landfills, we've made a commitment to collect this waste for composting. This conscientious approach to food waste not only reduces the strain on landfills but also supports our goal to cultivate our very own vegetable garden next spring.
By recycling our lunchtime food scraps through the composting process, we are able to create nutrient-rich soil for our garden beds. The compost we produce not only minimises waste but also enhances our garden's productivity.
Additionally, our composting process utilises an innovative method known as 'hot composting' with the use of Bokashi bran. Hot composting accelerates the decomposition process, effectively reducing methane emissions. By harnessing the power of Bokashi bran, we minimise the release of harmful greenhouse gases and take an active role in addressing climate change.
Our commitment to creating a greener, more sustainable future extends beyond our school gates. We believe that our partnership with Eat Make Play and our community garden project is a step in the right direction towards environmental responsibility. By working together, we can make a significant contribution to the preservation of our planet and inspire positive change within our community.
Join us in this exciting journey as we cultivate a vibrant community garden, reduce food waste, and minimise methane emissions. Together, we are sowing the seeds of a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
